Beginning June 2012, the programme will be offered as both part-time and full time.

A new policy has been approved in the Management Committee to offer 20% discount to ex-MMU students to do any PG program, the condition is that these student must FIRST register as life-member of MMU Alumni.

About the Programme
The telecommunication technology and industry have been undergoing rapid development. The market has been exposed extensively to new technologies and services. In the meantime, communication costs have decreased significantly and will continue to do so at a greater extent. The changes are due to two primary factors: technology development and competitive forces.

In technology development, the focus is no longer only on the maximisation of data-carrying capacity of network systems but also on enhancing communication mobility and portability and data security. The telecommunication engineering profession has thus become more challenging than ever. It is vital for telecommunication engineers to keep abreast of the fast-changing technologies and market conditions.

The Master of Engineering (Telecommunications) programme of Multimedia University is a master programme that has been specially-designed based on the university's extensive research experience and industrial inputs to address the need of the engineers and other technical professionals in face of the challenges in the telecommunication industry.

The programme can potentially result in the following benefits:
•       Strengthening the understanding of fundamental and advanced communication concepts and principles.
•       In depth know-how in telecommunication fundamentals and advanced techniques.
•       Understanding and design know-how for telecommunication systems and networks.
•       Good understanding of the telecommunication industry and market forces.
•       Top-up for membership applications to the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

Entry Requirements
a.      a Bachelor's Degree with Honours or CGPA of 2.67 and above, in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Microwave and Communications Engineering or Optical Engineering from MMU or another recognized University; or
b.      a Bachelor's Degree with Honours or CGPA 2.00 and above, in a related field from MMU or equivalent from another recognized University and show evidence of at least one (1) year of relevant working or industrial experience; or
c.      any other academic qualifications equivalent to (1), as approved by the Senate.

English Language Proficiency Requirement:
The MMU Senate approved the following English Requirement for all postgraduate programmes by coursework:
i.      "In addition to the academic requirements, an applicant is also required to possess one of the following a minimum overall TOEFL score of 580 (paper based) or 237 (computer based) or 92 (internet based) ; or
ii.     a minimum IELTS overall band score of 6.5; or
iii.    a credit in 1119 English Examination; or
iv.     a minimum score of 580 in Multimedia University's English Language Proficiency Test; or
v.      a minimum MUET overall band score of 4; or
vi.     any other qualification which is of equivalent level as determined by the Senate of the University.

All applicants must meet the required English Language requirement before being admitted to the approved programme of study.

Upon the recommendation of the Faculty, the Senate may exempt a candidate from the English requirement if the candidate had obtained the Bachelor's or Master's degree using English as the sole medium of instruction or as one of the media of instruction. The Faculty shall interview the candidate and recommend to the Senate for exemption, where appropriate."

An applicant may be required to satisfy the Faculty through an interview and/or examination of their suitability to pursue the programme.
